Sojourn at Idlewild in Winter Park:
A New Chapter for a Historic Landscape

Where History Meets Home

In this valley, "Idlewild" is more than a name on a map—it is a memory. For decades, the Idlewild Winter Park area was the heartbeat of the town, a place where locals learned to turn, where families gathered, and where the love of skiing took root. Sojourn at Idlewild is not just a development; it is an act of preservation and renewal. Built on the grounds of the historic ski hill, our community is designed to honor the playful, welcoming spirit of the past while creating a sustainable, connected future for the Fraser Valley. We didn't just buy a plot of land. We accepted the stewardship of a local landmark.

The Slope That Started It All: Remembering Idlewild Ski Hill

Long before the foundation of Sojourn was poured, these slopes were filled with the sounds of laughter and the hum of the "Blue Chair" lift. Operating from 1961 to 1986, the ski area defined the Idlewild Winter Park experience—it was the approachable, friendly alternative to the larger resorts, a place where skiing felt like a community event. Though the lifts stopped turning years ago, the spirit of Idlewild never left. The trails transformed into a world-class hiking and biking network, keeping the land active and beloved.

Our Commitment

When you walk the grounds of Sojourn, you are walking on history. We have worked tirelessly to preserve the corridor of the original ski runs and maintain access to the legendary trail system that winds through our backyard. We aren't building over history; we are living within it.

The Intention: Why We Chose This Place

The decision to build Sojourn was driven by intention, not opportunity. When the development team looked at this site, we saw something rare: a location that offered seclusion among the pines while being just steps from the pulse of downtown. We realized that this specific piece of land demanded a different kind of community.

  • Respecting the Land: We chose this site because of the towering trees, the sunlight filtering through the valley, and the direct access to the Fraser River. Our site plan was drawn to protect these sightlines and maximize the connection to the outdoors.
  • Connecting the Community: We believed that mountain living shouldn't mean isolation. We built here so our residents could walk to Hideaway Park for jazz festivals or hop on "The Lift" bus without needing a car.
  • A Place for Everyone: Most importantly, we saw a need to bridge the gap in our community. We chose this location to build a neighborhood where second-home owners and local workforce residents live side-by-side, creating a vibrant, authentic culture.

The Vision: Design Rooted in Nature

Our architectural vision is a direct response to the landscape. We turned away from the heavy, dark aesthetics of the past in favor of mountain modern design that reflects the light and openness of the valley.

  • Honoring the Slope: Our homes are terraced into the natural grade of the land, respecting the topography rather than fighting against it.
  • Framing the View: Every window is placed with intention, capturing views of Byers Peak and the surrounding forest, constantly reminding residents of why they chose this valley.
  • Sustainable Stewardship: By focusing on energy efficiency and smart density, we are reducing our footprint on the land we love.
